Cornfield Chronicles: Day 8
Today, whilst sitting about the communal fire, I beheld a female, whose ancestors hailed from Africa. She seemed to be eating something greasy, which I could not identify. She paused for a moment, as if in contemplation, before issuing forth a huge and tremendous “BUUUUUUURRRRRRRRR”-sounding belch. Some words came to mind, of a song from back home: “She is beauty and she’s...
Cornfield Chronicles: Day 7
Today, I was sitting around the communal campfire. Off to the side, I beheld the following conversation from a group of about 5 males, whose ancestors hailed from the wilds of Africa.
“She came like six times back to back to back to back.” <Snaps fingers multiple times> “Spread her legs and push that shit REAL DEEP.”
His compatriot responded: “This shit G?...
Cornfield Chronicles: Day 5
I have moved to the exotic, snowy wastes of DeKalb, and the learning curve among the natives has been terrifyingly sharp. I have been exposed to creatures and people and habits the likes of which I have never seen. I have eaten the local cuisine, and find that it will take some getting used to. I have slept on a sad, creaky cot provided to me by the village of Niu, and spent the first few...

Cornfield Chronicles: Day -23
Considering Christmas is five days away, one would think that “a giddy schoolgirl” of my age would be excited. That is completely false. Instead, I look forward to another, more auspicious date: January 12th, when I will be setting out for DeKalb (or, as I have just discovered the locals call it, “Deck Ulb”).
Instead of asking for fancy electronics or gizmos or scented...
Cornfield Chronicles: Day -27
I take a moment today to reminisce about my time in the glories of civilization. My work studying and conducting ethnography on the homeless people of Chicago has been a great time in my life, but that time is about to come to an end. I think about the smiling faces of all the homeless I have encountered, and I know I will miss them dearly.
That being said, I am venturing out to study the...
Cornfield Chronicles: Day -28
Today, I am preparing for my voyage to parts unknown, as I depart in little under a month. I spent today bidding farewell to my coworkers, and all of the interesting characters who show up in the computer labs (such as the Elvis impersonator—pictured above—who frequented my shift last semester).
They bid me a hearty farewell, and told me I would be missed. They told me they would especially...
Cornfield Chronicles: Day -29
I am currently packing up for my safari to the untamed wilds of the exotic “DeKalb.” DeKalb is a country in western Illinois that plays host to a variety of cultures, mainly sedentary agrarians, but also to a highly unique tribe that uses the emblem of a dog to represent their society. This “Clan of the Huskie” is the one where I will be spending most of my time, and where I will be...
